Kicks & Conversations networking event

At Breaking Through Roadblocks, we believe that meaningful change happens when organizations, leaders, and community advocates come together with a shared purpose. That belief was reinforced when we had the privilege of attending the Trefler Foundation's recent Kicks & Conversations networking event.

From the moment guests arrived, it was clear that this was much more than a traditional networking gathering. The event brought together nonprofit leaders, business professionals, community advocates, and changemakers from across the region, all committed to strengthening our communities through collaboration and service.

One of the greatest benefits of networking is the opportunity to discover resources, partnerships, and ideas that may never be encountered otherwise. At Kicks & Conversations, many of the area's leading nonprofit organizations were represented, each serving the community in unique and meaningful ways. Throughout the evening, we connected with organizations focused on entrepreneurship, youth development, education, mentorship, leadership, and economic opportunity. The diversity of missions represented demonstrated just how much impactful work is happening throughout our communities every day.

A highlight of the evening was an engaging panel discussion moderated by Jonathan Allen, Co-Founder and Director of Development of The Leadership Brainery. Jonathan's thoughtful questions and engaging facilitation encouraged authentic dialogue and meaningful conversations that resonated with attendees from all sectors.

The panel featured three outstanding nonprofit leaders who shared their experiences, lessons learned, and insights on leadership, service, and community impact:

• Mitch Hercule, Founder of The Hoop Collaborative, spoke about the importance of creating opportunities for young people through mentorship, athletics, and community engagement.

• Jamila Gales, Founder of the G.R.O.W. (Girls Reflecting Our World) Mentorship Program, shared powerful perspectives on empowering young women, building confidence, and creating pathways for future success.

• Ivanna Solano, Founder and Executive Director of Love Your Magic, discussed the importance of representation, self-confidence, and creating spaces where Black and Brown girls can thrive and embrace their unique identities.

Each panelist brought a unique perspective, yet all shared a common commitment to investing in people and strengthening communities. Their stories served as a reminder that lasting change is often driven by individuals willing to dedicate their time, talents, and resources to uplifting others.

Beyond the panel discussion, the event was thoughtfully designed to encourage meaningful interaction. Between the live music, engaging conversations, and creative networking activities, attendees had numerous opportunities to build authentic connections rather than simply exchange business cards. These conversations sparked ideas for future partnerships and highlighted the importance of staying connected within the nonprofit and business communities.

One of the most valuable takeaways from the evening was seeing firsthand how many passionate people are working toward similar goals. Sometimes the biggest challenge is not a lack of resources it is simply not knowing who is already doing the work. Networking events like Kicks & Conversations help bridge that gap by bringing together leaders who are committed to creating positive change.

At Breaking Through Roadblocks, we know that no organization operates in isolation. Relationships often become collaborations, collaborations become partnerships, and partnerships create greater impact than any one organization could achieve alone. The connections made during this event reinforced the importance of working together to address challenges and create opportunities for those we serve.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Jessica Castro, Vice President of The Trefler Foundation, for organizing such an impactful event. Her vision, dedication, and attention to detail created an environment where conversations naturally turned into opportunities for collaboration and growth.

As we left the event, we were reminded that networking is not really about collecting contacts, it is about building relationships. When people with a shared commitment to making a difference come together, great things happen.

Breaking Through Roadblocks looks forward to continuing the conversations that began at Kicks & Conversations and working alongside fellow organizations to strengthen our communities. The relationships built today may very well become the partnerships that transform our communities tomorrow.
